Have you tried anything new during lockdown?
Eve: "We have a cooking rota, which means that increasingly our meals have been getting fancier and fancier as we try to one up each other! I’ve veered away from my usual basic pasta, and dabbled with Persian, Indian and Japanese. Fan favourite was a veggie version of Dishoom’s Ruby Chicken using Quorn - SO GOOD."
Katie: "I’ve tried juicing to keep myself mentally and physically more healthy- I’ve also tried desperately to keep calm- being with my husband and 3 & 5 year old girls 24/7 is intense and has been extremely challenging as the girls don’t fully understand the COVID19 restrictions and how frequently they change. Walking has helped although at times it turns into ‘carrying’!"
Phoebe: "I've just finished my final year of university and had been thinking about renting my graduation dress for a while. Once I knew that it was going to be postponed due to lockdown I had to cheer myself up! So, I used Hirestreet’s try on service and now I have my eye on my favourite one to rent when my graduation finally comes! - Eve also tried this try-on service too, we both loved it!"
Have you taken up any hobbies in the last few months?
Eve: "I used to be an avid beader and have revisited this. I’ve taught myself how to loom weave the beads to make woven necklaces and bracelets, it’s such a nice relaxing way to spend an evening."
Katie: "Does homeschooling count?! I’ve restarted a few hobbies- I used to do a lot of whitewater and sea kayaking before having children so we got an open Canadian Canoe and have been taking my 3 & 5 year old out on it on the Thames which has been so lovely and peaceful."
Phoebe: "I stumbled across about 20 small terracotta pots while cleaning up my grandma's shed! So I've started painting them! It’s such a lovely activity to do in the garden on sunny days."
What’s something you’ve done during lockdown that you might not have had time for before?
Eve: "I’ve realised how much time was getting sucked up by commuting! I’ve basically got 3 extra hours in the day now - sometimes these are spent productively and sometimes they’re spent watching my favourite American trash telly!"
Katie: "We’ve had an allotment for about a year but recently our family has had the time to plant it up properly- we went for fruit and vegetables that the children picked- broccoli, potatoes, carrots, beans, baby sweetcorn and cauliflower. We’ve just started eating the carrots, some gooseberries and potatoes- the girls love going there as they make lots of dens and mud pies!"
Phoebe "Selling my clothes on Depop! I’ve had a pile of clothing I wanted to sell in my uni room for almost the whole year and I never got round to it. It’s was nice to be able to have a clear-out of my wardrobe and know I had time to make sure all of the clothes are going to a new home."
What have you done during lockdown which you want to take forward with you as the restrictions ease?
Eve: "I’ve been doing the year without buying any new clothes challenge (11 months in!). Being stuck in the house just reinforced that I really don’t need as many clothes as I once thought I did. Now I’ve curated a nice capsule wardrobe, which makes getting dressed in the mornings so much easier!"
Katie: "Support for local small businesses, producing less waste (our bin/recycling collections were suspended at times). It’s also made us all realise that it’s not ‘stuff’ that makes us happy but doing things with our friends and family."
Phoebe: "I made it my goal over lockdown to find packaging free products to replace everything I use in the shower and in my skincare routine (I’ve basically bought the whole of lush's naked collection). I would like to continue using these products and not go back to anything with packaging again. Although, the latest item I’m trying is a natural deodorant bar which is taking a bit of getting used to (probably a good thing I'm staying 2m apart from everyone!).
